 Indigestion in stomach is also called as dyspepsia. This term describes the discomfort observed in the upper part of the stomach. You should know that indigestion is not a disease and is caused to improper diet or lifestyle. It affects every person at least some time in life. So, if you feel like full all the time or if you have some stomach discomfort, you might be suffering from indigestion.

This article discusses about the causes, symptoms and remedies to treat indigestion in the stomach.

There are certain foods or drinks that increase the amount of water in the stools and lead to loose motion. Here are some foods that can cause loose motion as they do not get digested properly:

  • Heavy and spicy food
  • Caffeine
  • Eating very fast without chewing properly
  • Having certain antibiotics or iron supplements

Gas:

You can notice severe abdominal pain when you are suffering from gases. Certain foods can cause gases and tightness. If you have gases or bloating condition, then you might notice sharp pain in the stomach.

Stomach flu:

It is most commonly causes by bacteria and viruses and gets resolved easily within some days. You can identify this condition when you notice; nausea, vomiting, loose and watery stools. Whenever you eat anything,  you have loose motions in this condition and hence a lot of indigestion.

The symptoms of stomach flu last for 2 days only. However, if you are noticing symptoms after 2 days also , then there could be some serious underlying medical issue.

Irritable bowel syndrome:

Irritable bowel syndrome is associated with eating certain kinds of food. When the body cannot digest this food, it causes symptoms such as abdominal pain. This is because of cramping and bloating.

Acid reflux:

When you have acidity inducing foods like spicy an doily foods, the acidity inside your stomach increases. If it is severe, then this acid travels up to the esophagus. As the acid hurts , it causes pain in the abdominal region. This is known as acid reflux.

Increase in acidity ma also cause peptic ulcer.

Gastritis or inflammation of the stomach:

The stomach lining becomes swollen and there is immense pain in the stomach leads to pain. There are some additional symptoms too such as; vomiting, gases and bloating and indigestion.

Inflammation can also be a symptom of Crohn's disease.

Dumping syndrome:

In this syndrome, the food moves very fast from stomach to bowel. This leads to lack of absorption and improper digestion in the stomach. Hence, it causes loose motions and diarrhea.

Other symptoms associated with this syndrome are:

Pain in the abdomen
Bloating
vomiting and nausea
Improper digestion
Abnormal heartbeat

Celiac disease:

People who are allergic to gluten suffer from this disease. In this condition, the inner lining of stomach gets swollen upon eating of gluten and this results in loose motion.

Improper absorption of bile acid:

If you are suffering from bile obstruction, gallstones or liver cirrhosis, then you might experience loose motion. This is because in these condition the secretion of bile is affected. Bile is important for fat digestion which when hampered leads to gastric issues.

Apple cider vinegar for indigestion:

Apple cider vinegar improves the digestion and symptoms of heart burn and gases. This is because it increases alkalinity by working against the stomach acid. It is great for digestion because it increases the digestive enzymes in the body essential for relieving indigestion.

You can use it in the following way:

Take 1-2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar along with water before every meal.

Cumin water for indigestion:

Cumin has a large amount of volatile oils. It also has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This means that cumin is great for any problems related to stomach distress especially stomach gases.

Here is how you can prepare cumin water:

Take 1-2 tsp. of cumin and add it to one cup of water. Boil this cumin concoction for  5 mins and drink every night before sleeping.

Cumin strengthens the digestive tract and helps in bloating.

Carom seeds for indigestion:

Carom seeds are used from ages in India to get rid of stomach problems like bloating and stomach ache in children. The most important component responsible  for releasing gas from the stomach in carom seeds is thymol.

You can use carom seeds in the following way:

Take 1-2 tsp of carrom seeds and add them to one cup of water. Add some sugar and boil this for about 5 mins. Drink this concoction if you have stomach gas. Moreover, you can give it to small babies too who have stomach pain due to stomach gas

Yogurt for indigestion:

Yogurt is rich in good bacteria, which means that it is a great probiotic. Hence, to improve digestion and intestinal flora eat yogurt or curd everyday. Yogurt relieves stomach gas.

Eat one small bowl of yogurt after meal at least once very day.

Chamomile tea for indigestion:

Chamomile is an herb which is great for fighting inflammation and prevents . Hence it is a must have for bile reflux treatment. Fortunately, chamomile has no side effects. It contains mucilage which protects the lining of the esophagus hence prevents inflammation.

You can have chamomile in the form of a tea.

Lemon for indigestion:

You can use lemon juice in the following way:

The turmeric's main active compound is curcumin and other compounds are sterols and polyphenols. Thus it helps in digestive conditions and stomach gases. You can have turmeric in the following way for gas:

Add this powder to milk or  hot water and drink this daily for relief against a number of ailments.

Asafetida for indigestion:

Asafetida is a latex of a tree. It is very strong on flavor and a great anti-flatulent. It is great antimicrobial and provides you comfort from indigestion such as intestinal gas, flatulence and irritable bowel syndrome.

You can have asafetida in the following way:

Add a bit of asafetida to some water, boil it drink at least once daily.

In babies you can use asafetida to relieve gases in the following way:

Take 1-2 tsp. of asafetida and add it some water, just enough to form a paste. Then warm this paste and apply it over the naval region of the baby for getting relief from gases.

Fennel seeds for indigestion:

Fennel seeds are great because they contain volatile oil which helps to relieve gases and decreases bloating of the stomach and indigestion. The most important constituents in fennel are fenchone, anethole and estragole which have antispasmodic  activities.

You can have fennel seeds in the following way:

Eat one tsp. of fennel seeds after dinner for good digestion and reduction in bloating.

You can also prepare tea out of fennel in the following way:

Take 2-3 tsp. of fennel seeds and add it one cup of water. Boil this in water and drink this water every day for relief from digestive problems.

Baking soda for indigestion:

Baking soda will help relieve stomach gas. This is because the baking soda contains sodium bicarbonate. This is an antacid as it is basic in nature. This means it will react with acid in the stomach and neutralize it. Thus it results in reduction in bloating and indigestion . Moreover, even pancreas contain some sodium bicarbonate which helps to neutralize the stomach acid.

You can have baking soda for  stomach gas in the following way:

Take one glass of water and add one tsp. of baking soda to it. Then add some lemon juice to the water and then drink this mixture for relief from stomach gas.

Ginger for indigestion:

Ginger has anti-inflammatory property and also it acts a digestive tonic for the stomach. It also reduces the bloating sensation and promotes digestion of food in the stomach. Ginger also eases flatulence and eases pain due to stomach indigestion. Moreover, it is great for nausea too

You can have ginger in the following way:

Take one inch of ginger and grate it. To this grated ginger, add some lemon juice, asafetida and honey or sugar. Have this every time you suffer from stomach gas. You can also prepare in large quantities store this in the refrigerator.

mint for indigestion:

You can have mint alongside honey, it helps in fighting loose motions and other stomach indigestion.

The mint leaves contain menthol which decreases inflammation of the bowel, flatulence and loose motions. Moreover mint and honey combination helps to relieve digestion problems in the body.

You can have mint and honey in the following way:

Extract juice form the mint leaves and blend it with honey and lemon juice. Add this to lukewarm water and drink this mint tea twice daily.

Drumstick :

Drumsticks are highly used in India in regular meals. They are great for loose motions because they have anti-microbial and antioxidant properties. It helps in clearing away toxins from the body and hence relieves gut issues like nausea, vomiting, loose motions and diarrhea indigestion.

You can use drumstick leaves in the following way:

Take one teaspoon of juice of drumstick leaves and mix it with honey. Consume this mixture immediately and have this daily until loose motion stop.
