 The world is middle of a pandemic of coronavirus. Coronavirus or COVID-19 is a disease which is caused by viruses known as the SARS-CoV-2 . There was first case reported on 31st December 2019 in Wuhan, China.

We all are suffering from the danger of contracting this dangerous flu. However, we can keep ourselves safe if we follow some precautions.

Lets look at this disease and ways to be protected from this disease in this article.

Symptoms of coronavirus:

The symptoms of coronavirus infection are similar to flu in most people. However, these symptoms can lead to more severe symptoms if left untreated.

Common symptoms of coronavirus observed in the initial stages are:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • fatigue
  • Shortness of breath

However, there are some symptoms that are present in only some people and it may not be in some other patients.

These uncommon symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • Loss of taste and smell. Many patients who are asymptomatic observe this first hand.
  • Nose block and nasal congestion
  • Red eyes and conjunctivitis. This is very uncommon.
  • sore throat. The virus stays in the throat in after entering the body.

  • Joint pain and tiredness.

  • nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
  • chills and dizziness

However, here are some severe symptoms of COVID-19 that occur in some people:

  • Breathing difficulty or shortness of breath
  • loss of appetite
  • Confusion and inability to think clearly
  • Pain or pressure in the chest which is very persistent
  • High fever

The people who observe these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention. These symptoms are:

  1. Fever accompanied with shortness of breath
  2. Loss of sensation of smell and taste
  3. Loss of speech

These symptoms are severe. However, statistics say that most people recover from this disease without the need for getting admitted in the hospital. But, 15% require oxygen and become serious and about 5%cases require intensive care.

The corona virus can lead to death too. These conditions which lead to death are :

  • Respiratory failure
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome
  • septic shock
  • Thromboembolism
  • Failure of essential organs of the body

Risk factors of coronavirus:

These are people who are at highest risk for the disease:

Old people above 60 years

Underlying medical conditions such as high b.p, diabetes, heart and lung problems.

However, you should know that even if these people are at highest danger, this disease can get severe even in any person who contracts it.

Preventive measure that should be taken to avoid getting coronavirus infection:

  • Wear mask everyday and every time you  step out of the house.
  • Follow social distancing and maintain at least 2 feet distance from people.
  • Avoid going in crowded areas
  • Use sanitizer often and sanitize your hands, tables and plain surfaces.
  • Avoid handshake.

Practice all of these preventive and go out only if it is absolutely essential otherwise stay home as much as possible.

Home remedies as preventive measures for coronavirus:

Follow these home remedies to improve your immunity and health. However, you should understand that none of these remedies guarantee to kill the coronavirus.

They will improve the health of the body so that the body is strong enough to fight coronavirus infection.

Honey tea for coronavirus:*image

Honey provides soothing effect to the throat. Researches studied honey along with dextromethorphan for relieving throat pain. It was found that it relieved pain and provided relief. In children also honey showed good results . Parents prefer honey first as compared to other medications because it is sweet and safe.

Honey can be taken along with turmeric . take honey  by dissolving 2 tbsp. of honey in warm water or herbal tea.

Ginger for coronavirus prevention:*image

In ancient Indian medicine throat pain was treated with Ginger tea. Ginger has anti-inflammatory property and eases flu like symptoms.

One study showed that Ginger relieved cough by relaxing the cell membranes . Researchers have not yet done these studies in humans but it has effects. However, in ancient India a concoction of ginger was given for sore throat relief.

To prepare ginger tea , take 2 tsps. of grated ginger and add it to one cup of boiling water. Boil for some time and have this concoction twice or thrice daily for prevention from coronavirus.

Researchers have said  that having water at room temperature benefit in relieving throat pain and flu like symptoms.

Staying hydrated will help relieve some cough . You should also  drink hot water throughout the day. You should have hot beverages.

Tea
Coffee
herbal tea
clear soup

Steam for prevention of coronavirus:*image

Steam relieves wet cough. Wet cough produces a lot of phlegm and mucus. Take a warm bath and let the steam fill the room. stay in the steam until symptoms go away .

You can also have steam with a vaporizer. Fill the vaporizer with water and some herbs such as basil, eucalyptus and rosemary and take steam. It is best remedy for sore throat . It also clears decongestion. Lean over the bowl and breathe in the vapor for 5 minutes and not more than 15minutes . After this drink a glass of room temperature water to prevent dehydration.

Saltwater gargle for prevention of coronavirus:*image

Saltwater gargle helps in relieving wet cough and sore throat. Moreover, it also reduces the mucus that forms behind the throat which is hard to get out .

Take 1-2 tsp of salt in warm water and gargle every night until symptoms disappear. It is a very easy and efficient natural home remedies for throat pain relief.

Turmeric for prevention from coronavirus:*image

Turmeric produces a lot of mucus and expels out the viral and bacterial particles. Moreover, it also relieves sore throat symptoms. It is antiviral and antibacterial in action. It soothes  the throat from inflammation.

Turmeric can be taken along with hot milk. Add 1 to 2 tsp of turmeric powder to milk and boil it for some time. Drink this turmeric milk for relief from cough. Turmeric is found in Indian households and you should have it daily.

Probiotics do not directly treat coronavirus but they help in boosting the immune system. They increase the intestinal flora and improve immune system because good bacteria increases. Thus, our body is able to fight minor infections and boosts immunity making body strong to fight coronavirus.

Probiotics ae available in the market. However , some easily available probiotics at home are :

sauerkraut .

Licorice:

Licorice is an ancient herb used in India for ages to treat throat ailments. It has a number of benefits in sore throat. For example, it eases inflammation and congestion in the throat. You can use licorice to gargle or make licorice tea.

How to make licorice tea?

Take one rhizome of licorice herb and seep it in hot water for at least 30 mins. Drink this hot tea to get rid of sore throat.

Garlic:

Include garlic in your everyday diet. Especially in salads use raw garlic as a flavoring agent. The garlic has allicin which has anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing the soreness of the throat. Hence, use garlic to get rid of  throat pain.

Neem:

Neem leaves are great in antimicrobial and antiviral in action. They also increase the platelet count in body. You can use neem leaves in the following way:

Take 5 neem leaves and boil them in water. Drink this water everyday to increase platelet count and improve health to fight coronavirus.

In this breathing exercise, take air in from left nostril and block the other nostril by using a finger for this. Then exhale air from the right nostril. Take in air from the right and exhale through the left nostril. This is known as Anulom vilom .
